During this coming term, our boundaries will probably be fixed and zoning decisions made in our community. A mayor needs to plan not only for today, tomorrow, or next year, but also for the next 40 years. Decisions made in the next 4 years will determine the long-term viability of our community. Will the schools have the resources to provide the exceptional education they do today? Will the parks and libraries have sufficient revenue to continue to provide outstanding service? Will your village government be able to continue to provide the high quality services we do today? The decisions made in the next 4 years will answer those questions. Great newspaper editor Horace Greeley said go west young man. The decisions made in western Hoffman Estates will play a major and critical role in assuring the future of Hoffman Estates. Hoffman Estates must also embrace diversity, inclusiveness. The active recruitment of members of all races, ethnicities and cultures to become active participants in our governments and institutions. It is not enough to merely say everyone is welcome. To that end, I have actively recruited members of the minority communities to serve on our boards and commission, the farm team, to prepare for election to the village board. When I look at Hoffman Estates 40 years from now, I see a village where wise zoning and redevelopment decisions have been made. A secure revenue stream for all the vital service we provide. I also see a community where people of all races, cultures, ethnicities and religions live and work together harmoniously and effortlessly. Where newspapers no longer print stories about the first minority to run for and to get elected to some office. It will not longer be relevant. To the naysayers, doomsdayers, stand patters, the inner circle, and the members of the “We don’t want nobody nobody sent” club, I say that this is the least we owe the people and the business community of Hoffman Estates. I thank you for your support and hope you will support me on April 5. Thank you |
